Greenland protest

THE Danish semi-autonomous territory of Greenland, which a few weeks ago was squarely in the crosshairs of Mango Mussolini and his retinue of evil clowns, seems to have dropped completely from the attention of the public and the tinpot dictator with the onset of the war against Iran. I do not for one moment believe, however, that President Bobo the Simpleminded has moved on from his crack addict-like jonesing for Greenland, because, pliable tool that he is (that, after all is how this whole Iran thing blew up in the first place, as it was launched at the behest of the murderous warlord in charge of Israel), the objective of a Greenland takeover and who really has the objective has not changed one whit as a result of developments in the Middle East. If anything, the war is just a distraction from the Greenland objective.

To some extent, I think it was an intentional distraction, although to give the Christofascist regime credit for any serious strategic thinking would be going too far. These people are not very smart; even the ones (like Russell Vought, for instance, who is credited for being the chief architect of the Project 2025 blueprint) who are generally thought to have above-average intelligence are incapable of thinking more than one or two moves ahead.

This hypothesis of mine – and I absolutely could be totally wrong about it – goes something like this: Finding Greenland a tough nut to crack, the orange regime went looking for another target. The Venezuela thing has settled into a confusing quagmire. Cuba is on the menu, but because Venezuela is messy (Venezuela being Cuba’s closet economic ally since the collapse of the Soviet Union), the orange regime is not ready for that yet. Trump’s stupid-ass “Board of Peace” idea is being universally mocked, and completely ignored by the Israelis who are not yet done with their campaign of genocide against the Palestinians, and so the US administration was getting a bit desperate to make a splash somewhere, in order to draw attention away from an economy going down the tubes (92,000 jobs lost in February, for example), growing unrest over some policies (e.g., the tariff campaign complicated by the Supreme Court, and controversies over the anti-immigrant progrom and the trailer trash ho Trump had put in charge of it), and of course, the Epstein Files.

Now, when it comes to those ‘Epstein Files,’ it is my view that the ‘left’ is badly overestimating their significance in the effort to remove this piece of human garbage who could make Satan weep from the Office of the President, and preferably, from existence in three-dimensional space. Knowing what a piece of shit he is, America still elected this jackass twice; I don’t think documentary evidence that he is a child rapist and sex slave trafficker is going to make any actual difference, as far as it concerns him. But he and his posse seem to be at least a little bit worried about it, and so they’re trying to stall any revelations – perhaps not those that relate to Trump himself, but some of the richer and smarter people who pull his strings.

It’s those richer and smarter people who pull Trump’s strings who are the problem when it comes to Greenland, and are the reason that ridiculous ambition to seize the Arctic island is not going to go away.

Trump has made weak attempts to justify the ambition for Greenland as a security necessity for the US, saying on several occasions that if the US didn’t take control, then Russia or China would. Everyone has already recognized that as complete bullshit. Not only is there absolutely no evidence that either Russia or China has any interest in the territory, even if they, or some other threatening entity did, the 1951 treaty between the US and Denmark gives the US virtually unlimited military access to Greenland. Any such threat could then be easily thwarted, without the question of sovereignty being raised at all.

Rather, there are two other considerations. The first is the potential resource wealth of Greenland. Greenland is a treasure chest of critical minerals and high-value resources. There are economically viable reserves of zinc, copper, gold, oil, and even uranium, platinum, palladium, and other expensive minerals in Greenland. Most of these are difficult to harvest due to Greenland’s geography, but by no means impossible to reach.

The second, and more insidious potential advantage from a US takeover of Greenland comes from its potential subsequent setup as a territory free from most basic law of the US or the individual states, but under the US’ military protection. This part of the agenda, according to a number of investigative reports over the past several months, is heavily backed by tech bro idiots who are true believers in the idea of the “networked state,” a corporatist state free from regulatory oversight and run like a business, and which would gain recognition from existing states due to its sheer economic strength.

The main backer of this ridiculous notion is an organization called Praxis, run by a guy named Dryden Brown. Brown is not much of a factor, but his supporters are: These include the likes of Mark Zuckerberg; Jeff Bezos; Elon Musk; the hedge fund Andreesen Horowitz; associates of current US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick; Peter Thiel; Jon Lonsdale; the Winkelvoss twins; Ken Howery, the co-founder of PayPal along with Musk and Thiel, whom Trump appointed as ‘special envoy’ to Greenland; and most especially, OpenAI founder Sam Altman.

The point man in all of this is evidently 81-year-old Ronald Lauder, the billionaire heir to the Esteé Lauder cosmetics fortune (he’s her son), and a longtime close crony of Trump. How Lauder is connected to the people in the loose Praxis group is not entirely clear, but seems to be through some investments in their companies; Lauder himself established a toehold in Greenland by incorporating a boutique water company headquartered in the capital of Nuuk, although recent investigations indicate it does no actual work.

The arrangement seems to be one in which Lauder provides the constant ego-whacking Trump needs, while the billionaire members of the group provide the financial incentive – a significant part of it apparently coming from Sam Altman – for the Tangerine Tyrant to keep pushing for a takeover of Greenland. The recent eagerness Altman displayed for taking up the Pentagon AI contract in favor of ChatGPT after Anthropic refused to allow its Claude product to be used for mass surveillance or autonomous weapons systems was not coincidental, though Anthropic’s growing a spine probably had nothing at all to do with Greenland.

For OpenAI, the military contract is probably not going to quite make up for the lost revenue from the subscribers that have abandoned ChatGPT (about 2.5 million as of March 4) since the deal with the US military was announced. But a lawless fiefdom in mineral-rich Greenland certainly would, many times over.

So the answer to the question is no, we’re not off the Greenland thing yet. It’s just on hold for now. The technofascists are exercising some patience for the time being, but at some point, no matter what happens in the Middle East, they’re going to force Attila the Dumb to quit goofing around and get back on track.
