Coffee calamity

Coffee calamity -- My Manila Times column for Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

I am posting this as I am keeping one eye on the news about the incredible wildfires in the greater Los Angeles area, and it seems to me that it simply reinforces the notion that, once climate change starts hitting people where it hurts the most, then they'll start to care. I can say with utmost confidence that coffee supplies at risk will instantly turn every journalist in the world into a barricade-storming climate activist.

As far as the fires in California go, I do not know anyone in that area, but it's the only part of Southern California (Santa Monica/Malibu) that I am familiar with, and it is shocking and distressing to see it being incinerated. I hope that everyone in harm's way is alert, and able to get themselves, their families, and their animals to safety.

The cartoon is from today's (Wednesday's) paper, and I was tickled to death when I saw it this morning, because I had nothing to do with it, other than writing the column for yesterday's edition. I am very pleased to have made an impression. Good job, Kiko.
